Youth Medical Mentorship (YMM), an organization creating pathways to medical education for BIPOC children, founded and led by our 2023 Healthy Communities Fellow Dr. Chris McNeil recently released the 2024 Performance Report for its Tulsa Mentoring programs.
YMM is built to be a bridge for youth from communities traditionally underrepresented in healthcare to excel in the spaces and places that can inspire hope and possibility. YMM is actively working to increase and sustain the representation of underrepresented youth along each critical checkpoint of the medical and allied health professional career pipeline.
Highlights from the YMM 2024 Performance Report include:
- Improvements in school attendance at 14 sessions
- By three months students have increased hope and can achieve and sustain up to a 3.5 GPA.
- By the time 8th grade rolls around, 1 in 5 are already applying for scholarships up to $26K to chase a dream unhindered thanks to Tulsa Community College and the EDGE Program.
Youth Medical Mentorship is in the community to light a spark for students interested in healthcare, and as this report shows it is exciting to see the youth on fire for their future.
