Clare Byarugaba is a Ugandan LGBT rights activist and co-coordinator of the Civil Society Coalition on Human Rights and Constitutional Law based in Kampala. After national anti-LGBT rhetoric in 2013, she sought to open a Kampala chapter of PFLAG but was outed by a tabloid, facing threats to her life. Byarugaba shared her story at the 2014 Women in the World Summit and became a 2014 Oak Fellow at Colby College’s Oak Institute for International Human Rights.
