Jemimah is the Chief of Economic Empowerment for UN Women where she has a global policy role helping the organization promote women’s ability to secure decent jobs, accumulate assets, and influence institutions and public policies determining growth and development. Prior to her role at UN Women, Jemimah was the Director for Africa at the International Food Policy Research Center where she worked with African governments and key stakeholder to develop evidence for transformative policy change. For the last 20 years she has carried out gender research and managed women’s economic empowerment programs in Africa and Asia. Jemimah holds a doctorate in Development Studies from Sokoine University. She has published widely on gender and women’s economic empowerment specifically in the areas of technology, markets, andand livestock. She has recently co-edited two books; one on ‘Women and livestock in Eastern and Southern Africa’, and the other on ‘Transforming Gender and Food Systems in the Global South’. She is the Editor of the Journal of Gender, Agriculture and Food Security.
